Marc Gafen - a snapshot
Background
Marc did not begin his career as a photographer. Upon completing high school, he went to university to get an education and achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy, followed by a Master of Commerce. Marc entered the corporate world but soon found his creative blood beginning to clog. He left to pursue his photographic aspirations.
Talent
Having travelled extensively throughout his life, Marc developed a travel-reportage style of photography as a result of photographing people from all over the world in their natural environments, particularly in developing nations such as India (which he visited twice), Nepal, Cuba, Mexico and Belize, to name a few. Marc is a passion-driven photographer whose goal is to capture unique moments in time as masterfully and unobtrusively as possible.
Experience
Marc has been working as a professional photographer since 2000, although he has been honing his craft since he was a teenager. He not only shoots weddings, portraiture and commercial projects but is also the editor of industry magazine Capture, Australia’s leading pro photography magazine. Some of Marc’s career highlights include being accepted into the Fuji ACMP Australian Photographers Collection, becoming a finalist in the Yellowglen Young Photographer of the Year Awards and opening The Phodographer in 2008. Marc is particularly proud of his work for Opportunity International, where he was commissioned to capture images of those directly affected by the 2002 Bali bombings. His work formed the basis of the charity’s Easter Appeal, which marked the 6 month anniversary of the tragedy and helped to support the victims and their families.
